Fun Faux Fur for Cozier Homes

Faux fur accessories can add a warm, cozy pop of fun and color to your home.  From pillows and throws, to rugs and stools, faux fur is all the rage.  DIY projects range from quick and easy, such as combining two or more smaller rugs to create a larger one, to the more complex, like building your own ottoman.

If your local fabric, craft or discount store does not have what you are looking for, there are online options like Michaels.com and Joann.com that give you the option of delivery or in-store pick up.  Prices range from $8.39/yd for fun animal prints to $24.99/yd for that classic 1970s retro white shag look.

Here are some of our favorite DIY faux fur projects:

Playful Baby Gym

Create a cozy place for baby to hang out by putting a faux sheepskin rug (available at Ikea) on the floor and then adding a favorite hanging toy or mobile.

Furry Ottoman

To update an old ottoman or give new life to a great find at a consignment or thrift store, use quick straight seams using faux fur material, or even five small faux fur rugs, to sew a fabulous cover.  If you are feeling a little more ambitious, try building your own ottoman with this handy guide.

Snuggly Throw

Stay warm on those cold winter nights snuggled under a simple throw made with a couple yards of faux fur and flannel for a reverse side.

Realistic Rug

You can create a realistic looking faux fur rug or throw by using 1.25 yards of fabric from your local store and coffee.
