It’s patio season in Utah! There’s nothing better than sharing a good meal outdoors with great company on a warm summer night. And lucky for us all, Utah’s outdoor dining scene is bursting with options around the valley and beyond.
Here’s a look at our best bets for patio dining in Utah.
- Ruth’s Diner: American, SLC
With 2015 marking their 86th anniversary in the restaurant business, Ruth’s Diner is the second oldest restaurant in Utah, and for a good reason. So what’s their secret? Besides their great burgers and award-winning comfort food served at breakfast, lunch and dinner, it’s the restaurant’s beautiful creekside patio that continues to attract locals. Come in on Thursday night and enjoy live music, a great barbeque and picturesque outdoor seating.
- Frida Bistro: Mexican, SLC
In the mood for something spicy? This upscale Mexican restaurant specializes in all things fresh, flavorful and festive and their outdoor patio dining is no exception. With twinkling lights and vibrant décor, Frida Bistro is the perfect hangout spot to wind down after a long day. Their food’s great too. Frida’s serves up Mexican classics with a modern twist, like their Carnitas, consisting of braised pork tenderloin served with chipotle mashed potatoes, pickled onions and jicama and grilled asparagus or their Camarones Diego, with jumbo shrimp in a spicy chipotle cream sauce served with rice and cactus salad.
- Porcupine Pub & Grille: American, SLC
With breathtaking views of the canyons, superb “All-American” food and a relaxed, outdoor patio area, Porcupine Pub & Grille is a great place to escape to during the summer months. Sit out on the deck and enjoy a meal option from their “Canyon Favorites” section, like their grilled baby back ribs or their popular fish and chips.
- High West Distillery & Saloon: American (West), Park City
With a rustic feel and upscale touches, High West Distillery & Saloon is a horse livery turned distillery and restaurant offering everything from cured meats and liver pâté to pot pies and New York strip. The entire property was moved back five feet to accommodate the patio, which is both comfortable and well-designed. Outdoor fire pits provide extra warmth and ambiance.
- Maxwell’s East Coast Eatery: Italian, SLC
Here’s what you need to know about Maxwell’s East Coast Eatery: the restaurant is rooted in authentic Italian cooking and boasts a comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere with the largest outdoor patio seating available on Main Street. Foodies can munch on a 20-inch authentic New York style thin crust pizza, soak in prime city views and people watch from the restaurant’s outdoor seating area.
- Vinto: Italian, SLC & Park City
Vinto is both affordable and delicious with two locations serving Utah: Park City and Salt Lake. Locals and visitors alike flock to the Park City patio for views of Park City Mountain Resort, lower Main Street and Aerie Hill. For a special treat, stake a table on a Sunday afternoon and relax after perusing the Sunday Market.
- Silver Fork Lodge: American, SLC
Known for its great service, meals and surreal mountain views, Silver Fork Lodge is a popular hangout spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The lodge overlooks Honeycomb Canyon and both Brighton and Solitude Ski Resorts, offering picturesque views at every table. Wondering what’s popular on the menu? Their summer-inspired dishes like their warm tomato and mozzarella with basil, olive oil, fennel and roasted garlic or their cajun pasta topped with fresh ingredients like grilled shrimp, scallops, mushrooms and onions (to name a few) top our “must-try” list.
- Oasis Café: American, SLC
Oasis Café is known for serving up the most flavorful and fresh ingredients around. The café boasts a variety of vegetarian meal options, with the Mediterranean salad and Udon peanut stir fry being some of its most popular dishes for non-meat eaters. Need something with a little more substance? The paprika crusted chicken and the sesame crusted ahi tuna are also popular menu items. Once you’ve decided on your meal, enjoy outdoor patio seating in the always flower-filled courtyard.
- Kaffe Mercantile: Breakfast & Brunch, Ogden
While not exactly a dining establishment, though they do serve a large selection of delicious homemade scones, muffins and desserts, Kaffe Mercantile has one of the coziest outdoor patios in Utah. And what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm. If your idea of fine dining includes a cup of Joe, Mercantile should be your first stop of the day.
- Gracie’s: American (New), SLC
With two floors, two patios and amazing views of downtown and the Wasatch Mountains, Gracie’s offers lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, along with live music or a DJ almost nightly. The food is good, but the fun vibe and city views make it one of Salt Lake’s best patio dining destinations.
