The 9th and 9th area of Salt Lake City is, simply put, an awesome place to spend time. The perfect blend of quaint neighborhood and walking commercial district, it harkens back to times past when shopkeepers knew their customers and neighbors knew the shopkeepers.
This community is packed with salons, restaurants, pet stores, photography studios, jewelry stores, fitness spots and more. You’ll find many people shopping, eating or just taking a walk. Another great thing about this area is that it is pet-friendly. Many shopkeepers encourage their customers to come in with their pets…as long as they are properly secured.
Oh…and don’t forget about the historic Tower Theatre. An iconic movie house that is a constant friend of the independent film, I remember going there in my college days and watching midnight showings of cult classics like Rocky Horror Picture Show and A Clockwork Orange (my personal favorite!).
Today, I have my eye on a gift for my grandmother. She is 92 and can still rock a high heeled shoe. I decided on a beautiful pin from Apt 202…and I might have picked up some funky earrings for myself!
So, next time you are in need of a unique gift or just want to eat at a local, non-chain eatery (Pago is definitely my fave in this neighborhood), come on down to 9th and 9th. Spend the afternoon just wandering and enjoying the beautiful Northern Utah environment.
Oh…by the way, they also hold several events and street festivals in the neighborhood throughout the year. Check out this link for more info: http://www.9thand9th.com/district/index.html
