It is difficult to believe that a full ten years have passed since the horrific events of September 11, 2001, and no doubt we all carry with us the images of devastation and loss of life in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania.
We continue to mourn the innocent lives lost and remain in awe of the heroic efforts of those both on the ground and in the air who gave their all in hopes of saving others.
While our country was shaken in the wake of the attacks, Americans collectively chose not to fall victim to the actions of others. Rather, we rallied together with purpose to rebuild, help those affected, and strengthened our commitment to the values which are uniquely American. We knew this, above all, was the ultimate weapon to defeat the terrorists. It remains so today.
Regardless of whether you were personally connected with someone who perished in this tragedy, we were all impacted by this unforgettable event. So this Sunday, as we honor the 10-year anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001, we will take a moment to remember those who lost their lives and the bravery and self-sacrifice so many showed that day and beyond.
This great country has faced seemingly insurmountable challenges through its history, yet the perseverance and confidence of the American people have always led to brighter days. It is our nature as Americans, and why our country has, and will always, be an example for so many around the world.
